Saturday Sweets

This past Saturday my wife and I did our normal afternoon errand run, but decided to make a special side trip to a new bakery down the street. Cupcakes-A-Go-Go is a dedicated specialty cupcake shop making an array of different cupcake varieties and muffins too. You can find this on their menu the website, but they make a muffin that’s labeled “French Toast with Bacon.” Sadly, they were out of those by the time we got there in the afternoon, but we were more than happy to get four of their specialty cupcakes.

From the front going clockwise, we have: Pumpkin Cheesecake, Irish Trifecta, Tiramisu, and Chocolate Sea-Salted Caramel.

Later on we also went to Willy Street Co-Op and got some breakfast for Sunday morning. We had an apple kringle in mind, but saw a variety of fruit “dumplings.” The blueberry ones looked too good to pass up and indeed were. They were indeed a nice treat for a Sunday morning and went very well with a cup of strong tea.

Man Food

When my wife is gone for the weekend, or sometimes even just gone for dinner, I like to make myself some food that she doesn’t like. She’s not a huge fan of eggs (a texture thing), mushrooms, or large hunks of meat. She was gone for dinner one night last week, and we had eggs in the fridge – and my family’s oatmeal sausage in the freezer – so I whipped up a quick version of a full breakfast. (Here’s the Wikipedia link for “full breakfast.”) Breakfast (whenever it’s eaten) is by far my favorite meal of the day, but full breakfasts are definitely one of my favorite meals of all to make and enjoy. You’ve seen full breakfasts on the blog before, but mine of course are always more mild compared to the full-fledged versions (follow Wiki link).

My wife is gone this weekend and the first part of next week, so I need to start figuring out my menu. There’s a beef roast in the freezer so I’m certain that will be made. I need to find a good recipe though, one that includes mushrooms in the mix too. I’m sure that there is an Irish stout roast recipe somewhere out there with mushrooms, I just need to go hunting.

I still need to figure out another dinner idea though as the roast won’t last me the whole time. I’m tempted to try a sweet potato beans & rice recipe I found a while back or make some Indian since I haven’t had that in awhile. Who knows. I might even just let my primordial hunger persuade my reasoning and get some biscuits and extra crispy from KFC. Yeah…don’t judge me.
